| Wenatchee is the County seat of Chelan County, Washington. Wenatchee is located on the Columbia River, near the mouth of the Wenatchee River. "Wenatchee" is a Native American word "wenatchi" meaning "river flowing through canyon". Although it has a population of less than 30,000, Wenatchee is the economic hub of Chelan, Okanogan and Douglas counties. The local economy centers on apples and cherries. Wenatchee prides itself as the "Apple Capitol of the World." Wenatchee has experienced steady growth since irrigation was brought to the area nearly 100 years ago. Tourism is the biggest non-agricultural industry in the Wenatchee area. |
